Professional Writing, Personal Touch

Cynthia Childress, Ph. D. is the founder of Childress Business Communication. She puts her 9 years of relationship building in international nonprofit and American start-up cultures to work for her clients. As President of the American Association of Malaysia and President of the Balikpapan International Women’s Association, she used her writing, editing, and speaking skills to build relationships with members and the larger corporate donor and grassroots charities she collaborated with and served. She continues to work with The Perfect Workout to ensure quality control and friendly scripts for their phone handling campaigns and performs much technical and ad copy writing for the company, various manuals and sales training, to Customer Relationship Management task templates and Yelp and Glassdoors campaigns.

As a child, Childress was a voracious reader of everything from novels and newspapers to product labels, and her first job was writing weekly news articles for The Macon County Chronicle. She graduated Magna Cum Laude from Western Kentucky University, where she studied creative writing and communication. During the completion of her M.A. at the University of South Florida she started two events: First Fridays lecture series and Breathing Space open mic poetry readings. These events were her first successful marketing and event planning campaigns, for which she used her understanding of word choice and language craft to share her vision and draw in an audience of like-minded people. She continued to refine these skills at the University of Louisiana at Lafayette where she completed her English generalist Ph. D and hosted the Thursday Night Reading Series where she launched a popular bi-annual poetry slam, in addition to participating in community theater with Acting Up Acadiana. Her university teaching credits include: Technical Writing, Advanced Expository Writing, Introduction to Creative Writing, Modern American Literature, and others.

She is an accomplished poet and writer and teaches creative writing workshops with Writespace, amongst others around Houston. She is completing a novel, which she worked on for a month in Rome, Italy. Childress and her husband were Celebrity Paws Honorees with Citizens for Animal Protection, and they regularly foster needy felines.
